This cautionary alert encompasses the central and western regions of KwaZulu-Natal, forewarning residents of potentially damaging winds, intense lightning, hail, and heavy rainfall.

The weather service noted that among the towns expected to bear the brunt of this inclement weather are:

  • Newcastle
  • Ladysmith
  • Estcourt
  • Dannhauser
  • Utrecht
  • Msinga
  • Bergville
  • Mooi River
  • Dundee
  • Umvoti

Highlighting the potential consequences of these impending storms, SAWS emphasised the risk of infrastructure damage, road flooding, lightning-related injuries, and peril to life. The heightened lightning activity may also result in power surges.

In light of these severe conditions, SAWS implored residents to exercise caution, particularly when traversing bridges in low-lying areas prone to flooding or sinkholes. Outdoor activities should be avoided due to the hazards posed by lightning, hail, and potential flooding.

Furthermore, the weather service advised residents to secure their livestock and vehicles in sheltered areas to mitigate the risk of flying debris.
