This follows the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issuing a warning, indicating that adverse weather conditions are likely to persist until 11 pm.

According to SAWS, these severe thunderstorms have the potential to wreak havoc on infrastructure, settlements, livelihoods, and livestock. Localised flooding on susceptible roads is also anticipated, posing risks to motorists and pedestrians alike.

Moreover, residents are cautioned about the heightened danger of lightning strikes, which could result in injuries and life threatening situations. Additionally, the increased lightning activity may lead to power surges, potentially disrupting essential services.

The towns expected to be most affected by these severe thunderstorms, as identified by SAWS, include:

  • Newcastle
  • Dundee
  • Utrecht
  • Dannhauser
  • Ladysmith
  • Estcourt
  • Vryheid
  • Nquthu

In light of these warnings, residents are strongly encouraged to exercise extreme caution during this period, especially when commuting.
