According to the latest weekly report on KwaZulu-Natal’s dam levels compiled by the Department of Water and Sanitation, the Umngeni Water Supply System has marginally decreased from its full capacity of 100% last week to 99.7% this week.

Despite most dams in the province maintaining above average levels, the Department of Water and Sanitation reiterates the urgent need for residents to use water sparingly.
Departmental spokesperson, Wisane Mavasa, stressed, “We all have a responsibility to preserve this precious resource, even when some dams are close to full capacity across the province. Unpredictable weather patterns due to climate change remind us that every drop counts. While dams may be full today, extreme heat causing water evaporation remains a serious concern.”
