The incident unfolded just before 5 pm, involving a Mazda and a Kia, damaging a traffic light during the crash.

According to one of the four occupants of the Mazda, they were travelling down Albert Wessels Drive from the CBD when the collision transpired. “We were approaching the traffic lights, which had just turned orange. As we went over, the other vehicle turned into Albert Wessels Drive from Hardwick, and we crashed,” explained the woman.

An occupant from the Kia recounted that the traffic light was green for them when they made the turn, and the Mazda unexpectedly collided with them.

An official law enforcement officer on the scene explained it is speculated that the driver of the Mazda had skipped the traffic light while driving down Albert Wessels Drive. In addition to this, it was also suspected that he had alcohol in his system, seeing law enforcement remove him from the scene to take him in to be tested.

Fortunately, no serious injuries were reported on site. However, the occupant of the Mazda mentioned that her nine-year-old nephew was taken to the hospital to assess an injured shoulder. Traffic flow was hampered due to the incident, causing motorists to practice caution to avoid the accident.
