Taking place just after 10 am, a police source explained that the collision unfolded as the VW Polo motorist was driving up the busy road and collided with a bakkie which was allegedly in the process of committing an illegal traffic infringement.

Elaborating further on the incident, the VW Polo motorist explained that he was driving home when the bakkie driver committed an illegal U-turn. “It all happened so fast,” said the motorist, who stressed he had no time to respond when the bakkie driver turned out in front of him.

Emergency personnel responded to the incident, with a police officer on the scene stating that a woman (passenger in the VW) was injured as a result. “It is suspected that she has a possible arm fracture,” he pointed out, adding the full extent of her injuries would need to be confirmed at the hospital.

After providing officials with the necessary details, the bakkie driver reportedly departed the scene, while the VW Polo required removal by a local towing company.

During the vehicle’s extraction, Newcastle Police, KwaZulu Private Ambulance paramedics, and Magenta Security security officials collaborated to manage traffic flow, attend to the scene, and prevent any subsequent incidents.
