A man tragically passed away while walking along Drakensberg Drive in Pioneer Park, leading the Newcastle South African Police Service (SAPS) to initiate an inquest investigation.
The incident unfolded on Monday at around 3 pm, as the man was walking along the bustling road.
According to an official police source, a witness walking behind the deceased reported that the man suddenly collapsed and fell to the ground.
The police source elaborated further, saying that following the fall, witnesses observed the man struggling to breathe. Despite the arrival of local paramedics, the man was declared dead at the scene. The police source indicated that, at this stage, no foul play is suspected. However, a comprehensive postmortem examination will be conducted as part of the investigative process.
In the aftermath of the man’s demise, Ziyaad Warasally from ER24 emphasised the importance of CPR in situations where individuals collapse and face difficulties breathing. Warasally recommended administering CPR until paramedics arrive, noting that bystander CPR can be crucial as the brain cannot endure more than four minutes without oxygen.
While acknowledging that mouth-to-mouth resuscitation might be uncomfortable for some, Warasally highlighted the effectiveness of chest compressions. He urged Newcastle residents to consider undergoing CPR and First Aid Training, emphasising its potential life-saving impact in critical situations.
As the police delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding the incident, Newcastillian News extends sincere condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased.
