Elderly man injured in collision at Hospital and Sutherland Street intersection 

An elderly man was injured following a collision involving a motor vehicle and a Newcastle Municipal truck.

The incident occurred shortly before 4 pm on Tuesday, 30 January 2024, at the intersection of Sutherland Street and Hospital Street, Newcastle.

An official present at the scene stated that the precise circumstances surrounding the accident remain unclear. However, it is reported that the driver of the car collided with the Municipal vehicle while attempting to cross the intersection along Hospital Street.
As a result, the elderly man sustained moderate injuries and received treatment at the scene from attending paramedics before being transported to the hospital.
Further investigations will be conducted into the matter and motorists are urged to drive safely.
