The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a cautionary alert indicating the imminent occurrence of severe thunderstorms across various Northern KwaZulu-Natal towns.
As a result, the weather service has pinpointed specific towns that are anticipated to bear the brunt of the inclement weather:
- Newcastle
- Ladysmith
- Vryheid
- Dundee
- Utrecht
- Paulpietersberg
- Dannhauser
- Nongoma
Anticipating a worsening of the adverse weather conditions, SAWS has underscored the potential for localised damage to infrastructure, settlements, and vehicles. The weather service has also cautioned that susceptible roads may experience localised flooding, leading to potential hazards such as minor vehicle accidents owing to slippery road conditions and reduced visibility.
In addition to these warnings, the weather service has highlighted the likelihood of significant amounts of small hail. Residents residing in the mentioned towns are strongly advised to exercise prudence when travelling amidst the prevailing weather conditions and to abstain from engaging in outdoor activities.
