A Newcastle resident is facing charges of attempted murder following an incident where he allegedly attempted to use his motor vehicle to harm his 71 year old neighbour.

According to the SAPS, the unsettling event recently took place along Cinnamon Street in Fernwood, as the elderly man was strolling along the road.

An official police source reported, “The elderly man alleged that he was walking when his neighbour came driving his vehicle from the opposite direction. His neighbour apparently pointed his finger at him, and the victim pointed his finger back.”

The situation escalated when the neighbour purportedly steered his vehicle towards the 71 year old man, resulting in a collision that left the elderly individual injured. The SAPS has confirmed that an official case has been initiated, and a comprehensive investigation into the matter is currently underway.

The motive behind the incident remains unclear at this point, and authorities are diligently working to gather more information.
