The incident unfolded shortly before 2 pm on the P483, the road connecting Madadeni and Newcastle.

According to a source at the scene, the driver of the bakkie allegedly collided with the Municipal vehicle as both were heading towards Newcastle. The reason behind the driver crashing into the truck remains uncertain at this time.

While the refuse truck sustained minimal damage in the collision, the Nissan bakkie suffered severe damage, leaving the driver trapped inside. Fortunately, local firefighters carried out the extraction, with paramedics from both KwaZulu Private Ambulance and Magenta Emergency Medical Services on standby to provide immediate assistance.

The driver, who sustained moderate injuries, including a neck injury, was stabilised at the scene and then transported to the hospital by KwaZulu-Natal Private Ambulance.

Further investigations into the incident will be conducted to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the collision.
