Tragic head-on collision claims three lives near Ladysmith

On Tuesday, 26 December 2023, three lives were lost in a fatal head-on collision on the N3 near Ladysmith.

The circumstances surrounding the tragedy remain unclear, but a rapid response from IPSS Medical Rescue was initiated following reports of a serious collision.

Upon the arrival of paramedics, a grim scene awaited them, revealing the aftermath of a head-on collision involving two vehicles. IPSS Medical Rescue reported, “On arrival of paramedics, it was established that three occupants had sustained fatal injuries and were sadly declared deceased on scene, including a ten-year-old girl. A fourth patient was found to be severely entrapped in one of the vehicles and had sustained critical injuries.”

The complex extrication process was carried out with precision by the EMRS Rescue team using the Jaws of Life. The entrapped patient was successfully freed, stabilised, and promptly transported to a nearby medical facility for the essential care they urgently required.
