This Week's Update on KwaZulu-Natal's Dam Levels

The Department of Water and Sanitation‘s latest report on the state of KwaZulu-Natal’s dams reveals a varied picture of water levels across the region.

According to the report, numerous dams have experienced positive changes, although some still require further rainfall.

Looking at the current state of KZN’s dams:

  • Albert Falls Dam: Water levels at Allbert Falls Dam have risen from 92.4% last week to a current level of 94.4%.
  • Bivane Dam: Bivane Dam remains unchanged this week, as water levels stand steady at 81.8%.
  • Craigie Burn Dam: Reflecting a slight improvement, Craigie Burn’s levels are at a healthy 101.1% compared to last week’s 100.8%.
  • Driel Barrage Dam: Water levels at Driel Barrage Dam remain unchanged, at a stable 86.3%.
  • Goedertrouw Dam: Notable improvement is seen at Goedertrouw Dam, with water levels rising from 99.8% to 100.2%.
  • Hazelmere Dam: Conditions at Hazelmere Dam significantly improved, with water levels at 73.7% this week, compared to 63.9% the previous week.
  • Hluhluwe Dam: Maintaining a healthy status, Hluhluwe Dam’s levels are at 100% this week, up from 99.3%.
  • Inanda Dam: Experiencing a slight increase, Inanda Dam’s water levels stand at 102.6%, compared to 101.9% the previous week.
  • Klipfontein Dam: A substantial improvement is noted at Klipfontein Dam, with water levels at 93.3% this week, up from 87.9%.
  • Mearns Dam: Showing improvement, Mearns Dam water levels have risen from 90.7% to 103.1%.
  • Midmar Dam: A modest increase is seen at Midmar Dam, with water levels rising from 80.4% to 83.3%.
  • Nagle Dam: A significant improvement is observed at Nagle Dam, with water levels at 100.9% compared to last week’s 88.3%.
  • Ntshingwayo (Chelmsford) Dam: Ntshingwayo Dam’s water levels are at 64.2%, up from last week’s 63.3%.
  • Pongolapoort Dam: Pongolapoort Dam noted a slight improvement, with water levels at 73.1% compared to last week’s 72.5%.
  • Spioenkop Dam: Maintaining a healthy status, Spioenkop Dam’s water levels are at 100.8%, compared to 100.1% the previous week.
  • Spring Grove Dam: Spring Grove Dam’s levels stand at 68.6%, showing a slight increase from 67.4% last week.
  • Wagendrift Dam: There has been a noteworthy improvement at Wagendrift Dam, with water levels rising from 83.7% to 96.9%.
  • Woodstock Dam: Woodstock Dam’s levels remain unchanged, remaining steady at 89.9%.
  • Zaaihoek Dam: Water levels at Zaaihoek Dam remain unchanged, standing at 90.6%.

With the prospect of further rainfall and several dams showing positive trends, water conservation remains crucial this festive season.
