As the festive season approaches local police are intensifying efforts to prioritise community safety.
This comes as police officers from the Newcastle SAPS and their colleagues from the Amajuba District conducted two roadblocks—one along the R34, commonly referred to as Memel Road, and another along Ingogo Road.
The primary objective of these roadblocks was to ensure motorists possessed valid driver and car licenses, to check the roadworthiness of vehicles, to ensure motorists adhered to road regulations, and to prevent the smuggling of illegal weapons or drugs into Newcastle.
“This is part of the comprehensive festive season plans across the Amajuba District, and the police will be executing a series of operations in and around Newcastle and the Amajuba District,” highlighted Lizzy Arumugam, spokesperson for Newcastle SAPS. She further said that this meant additional roadblocks and operations, in strategic parts of Newcastle, were on the cards.
With numerous motorists passing through Newcastle and with local residents travelling, police are intensifying efforts to keep the roads safe. Therefore, motorists are encouraged to not drink and drive, keep their licenses on them and ensure their vehicles are road worthy. These are the laws and fighting them is nonsensical.
