Newcastle Police are actively probing two brutal murders that unfolded in Newcastle on Saturday, 2 December 2023.
On the matter, Newcastle SAPS spokesperson Lizzy Arumugam provided details. She explained the first murder transpired along Allen Street at approximately 6 pm, originating from a heated dispute over space between two hawkers.
What began as a verbal altercation quickly escalated into a violent confrontation. One of the hawkers brandished a knife, ruthlessly stabbing the second hawker in the neck and shoulder. “The suspect then fled the scene, and police investigations are now underway to track him down,” stated Arumugam.
The second incident unfolded on Albert Wessels Drive, near the Marconi Street traffic lights. According to reports, a security guard observed three men engaged in a heated argument with a fourth man.
Upon the security guard’s intervention when he yelled out to the men, the trio hastily fled. Apprehensive about the well-being of the fourth man, the security guard promptly contacted Newcastle SAPS. Arumugam recounted, “When the police arrived on the scene, the victim was found covered in blood and had sustained multiple stab wounds.” The three suspects remain at large.
Newcastle Police are urging anyone with information regarding the whereabouts of the suspects involved in these two crimes to come forward. Detective Captain Shabir Ismail can be contacted at 079 500 0483.
The community is encouraged to assist in bringing those responsible for these heinous acts to justice.
