According to the latest dam levels report from the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS), regardless of the intermittent wet weather, the need for continued water conservation efforts remains paramount.

With this in mind, let’s delve into the state of KwaZulu-Natal dams according to the latest report:

  • Albert Falls Dam: The dam has seen a slight increase from last week’s 90.5% to a current reading of 91.4%.
  • Bivane Dam: Notably, Bivane Dam has witnessed an improvement, with its water levels rising to 81.8% from the previous week’s 78.7%.
  • Craigie Burn Dam: Maintaining a healthy status, Craigie Burn Dam records a robust 100.7% this week, up from 98% the previous week.
  • Driel Barrage Dam: Experiencing a decrease, the dam’s water levels have dropped from 100% last week to 95.4%.
  • Goedertrouw Dam: The dam maintains stability with water levels at a consistent 100.2%, similar to the previous week’s 100.1%.
  • Hazelmere Dam: Reporting no change, Hazelmere Dam remains at 60.3% according to the latest DWS update.
  • Hluhluwe Dam: The water levels at Hluhluwe Dam remain unchanged and robust at 100.6%.
  • Inanda Dam: Seeing a slight improvement, Inanda Dam is currently at 99%, compared to last week’s 97.6%.
  • Klipfontein Dam: No change is reported, and the dam maintains its water levels at 85.6%.
  • Mearns Dam: Displaying significant improvement, Mearns Dam records water levels of 83.7%, up from 77.2% the previous week.
  • Midmar Dam: There is no change in Midmar Dam’s water levels, which remain steady at 78% this week.
  • Nagle Dam: Observing a minor decline, Nagle Dam’s water levels have decreased to 95.9% from the previous week’s 98.2%.
  • Ntshingwayo (Chelmsford) Dam: The dam reports a reading of 65.4%, a slight decrease from last week’s 65.7%.
  • Pongolapoort Dam: Registering a slight decline, Pongolapoort Dam’s water levels are at 73.1%, down from 74.4% the previous week.
  • Spioenkop Dam: Exhibiting improvement, Spioenkop Dam’s water levels have risen to 94.2% from 85.2% last week.
  • Spring Grove Dam: The dam’s water levels are at 73.2%, a minor decrease from last week’s 74.2%.
  • Wagendrift Dam: Maintaining stability, Wagendrift Dam’s water levels stand at 86.8%, similar to last week’s 86.7%.
  • Woodstock Dam: Observing a slight decline, Woodstock Dam’s water levels have dropped from 96.9% to 92.9% this week.
  • Zaaihoek Dam: According to the DWS, Zaaihoek Dam remains unchanged at 90.6%.
