The incident occurred shortly after 11 am as the woman was heading towards Newcastle from the Ladysmith direction.

Recounting the event, she stated, “I was driving when I saw the other car standing on the side of the opposite lane. When I got closer, the motorist did a U-turn and hit my vehicle. Fortunately, I was not hurt.”

An official source at the scene reported that the driver of the Datsun Go had reportedly stopped on the road to reprimand individuals hitchhiking instead of using taxis.

Traffic officials arrived at the scene to clear the area, ensuring there were no further collisions, and commenced investigations into the crash.

Furthermore, Magenta Emergency Medical Services’ Charles Steyn said, “Motorists must adhere to the Road Traffic Act, as there is a reason there are solid lines. Also, if you do not have visuals, do not take a chance as the outcome can be fatal.”

He also urged motorists to take note of the traffic flow. “In one moment, in a blink of an eye, you think you are fine, and you miss a blind spot and this happens.”

Adhering to traffic regulations and exercising caution without taking unnecessary risks are essential practices to ensure the safety of both motorists and the general public.
