An incident on Thursday evening, 12 October 2023, noted a collision on the R69 at Sikame Crossing near Vryheid, resulting in multiple injuries. The mishap involved a truck and a car, prompting action from the emergency services.

Chantelle Botha, spokesperson for KwaZulu Private Ambulance, reported that their emergency medical team responded to the distress call concerning the collision.

The severity of the situation became apparent as they arrived at the scene.

Paramedics discovered a critically injured individual and another seriously injured person trapped inside the car. Additionally, five more individuals suffered injuries ranging from minor to severe due to the impact.

“Together with a Rescue Technician, Paramedics stabilised the two trapped patients and extricated them from the car. The patients were treated on scene before being transported to the hospital for further treatment,” elucidated Botha.

While the precise cause of this unfortunate incident remains under investigation, motorists are strongly urged to exercise caution and adhere diligently to traffic regulations to enhance road safety.
