Bakkie collides with a cow on the Madadeni Road

Travelling along a main road in the Northern KZN region, a woman escaped serious injury after colliding with a cow on Thursday afternoon, 28 September 2023.

The incident took place on the Madadeni Road, next to the Newcastle Dumpsite at approximately 5 pm when the woman was driving towards Madadeni from Newcastle.

Speaking with Newcastillian News, the motorist’s husband explained that his wife had been on her way home when the cow wandered into the road and in front of his wife’s bakkie. With the animal suddenly stepping onto the road, he said that she had no time to slow down or stop.

The resulting collision saw the bakkie sustain substantial damage, and the cow died as a result of the impact.

According to KwaZulu Private Ambulance, their team responded to the scene. Thankfully, upon arrival, the medics confirmed that the woman had not sustained injuries. However, speaking about the incident, KwaZulu Private Ambulance’s Sifiso Zwane said, “Community members must watch their cattle, as someone could lose their lives due to the negligence of allowing their cattle to wander.”

Following the warning by the paramedic, the motorist’s husband confirmed that he would be opening a police case and would look into pursuing legal action against the owner of the cow.
