A business located on Stephenson Street in Riverside Industrial, Newcastle, found itself at the centre of a highly coordinated business robbery, seeing Newcastle SAPS launch a business robbery investigation.
According to police reports, the criminal act transpired on Sunday, 17 September 2023, around midnight, as the culprits strategically targeted the security personnel of the business prior to executing their plans.
An official police source relayed the chilling account, as narrated by one of the security guards. “While on duty, the guard noticed a group of men approaching. One of them pulled out a firearm, instructing him to lie down and then hit him on the head,” stated the police official.
The assailants then successfully ambushed the second security guard, overpowering the man before escorting him to where they had subdued the first guard.
Once the two security guards were under their control, the suspects began breaking away at a precast wall on the building in order to gain access to the establishment. While the police source could not provide information on the tools the men used, they effectively broke through the wall.
After a duration of time, the suspects coerced the security guards through the wall they had breached, employing a shoelace to immobilise and tie them up. It was at this juncture that the security guards realised the suspects had made off with the business’s safe.
The guards eventually managed to get out of their restraints and the Newcastle SAPS were contacted. While no arrests have yet been reported, the local police are now conducting investigations into the brazen robbery.
If you have any information about the robbery it is your responsibility to contact the SAPS to ensure justice is served.
