The harrowing incident unfolded shortly after 10 pm, approximately 57 km outside of Newcastle from Ladysmith.

According to an official source at the scene, the driver was travelling along the right hand side of the dual lane, overtaking a second truck when the terrifying ordeal began. At that moment, a third truck approached from the opposite lane, navigating a bend too wide, and careening straight toward the first truck.

“He pulled his truck’s steering wheel to the right and veered off the road to avoid a head on collision,” recounted the source who was present at the scene.

The sudden manoeuvre caused the truck to veer off the road, ultimately coming to a crashing halt and overturning. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. Nevertheless, authorities anticipate traffic disruptions due to the incident.

Starz Towing responded to the scene on Wednesday night. However, as the sun rose on Thursday morning, the operation to empty the truck’s cargo was still underway.

According to the towing company, once the unloading process is complete, the Road Traffic Inspectorate (RTI) team will initiate a full road closure to allow Starz Towing to recover the overturned vehicle.

Moreover, this operation is expected to bring traffic along the route to a standstill as the substantial truck is painstakingly retrieved.
