The incidents placed emergency responders on heightened alert as they worked to mitigate the potential for further devastation in the wake of the collisions.

One of the accidents transpired on Saturday evening, 26 August 2023, involving a head on collision between a bakkie and a taxi along the N11 in Newcastle.

In the aftermath of this accident, initial reports indicate that the circumstances leading to the collision are currently shrouded in uncertainty. Chantelle Botha, spokesperson for KwaZulu Private Ambulance, divulged that paramedics present at the scene identified two patients with serious injuries, while an additional pair sustained minor injuries.
