Newcastle supermarket burgled, goods worth R35,800 stolen

Armed business robbery on Voortrekker Street, perpetrators on the run 

According to reports, a local supermarket situated on Voortrekker Road became the target of a daring burglary last week. Whereby, the perpetrators managed to make away with goods estimated to be worth R35,800.

An official police source revealed that the break in occurred under the shroud of darkness on the night of Thursday, 3 August 2023.

“The suspects had entered the premises by breaking the padlock on the door to gain access to the supermarket, before stealing the items,” shared the police source.

The supermarket’s proprietor was only made aware of the violation when he arrived at his establishment on the morning of Friday, 4 August 2023, when opening for business. The discovery of the break in prompted an immediate response from both the owner and the local authorities.

At present, the exact number of suspects involved in the burglary remains unclear. Law enforcement agencies have launched a comprehensive investigation into the matter to ascertain the identities of the culprits and the extent of their involvement.
