Ladysmith, Bergville, and Ezakheni recently experienced a significant influx of police activity as multi disciplinary operations were conducted in these three communities.
According to Warrant Officer Basheer Khan, spokesperson for the uThukela District Police, roadblocks were set up in various areas, leading to extensive searches of vehicles and individuals.
Additionally, high visibility blue light and foot patrols were deployed as part of the operations.
Warrant Officer Khan revealed that compliance inspections were carried out at liquor outlets, resulting in the arrest of several individuals for engaging in liquor trading without a valid license. The confiscated liquor was seized as evidence.
During the operations, eight people were apprehended for possession and/or distribution of cannabis and other illicit drugs, as well as for contravening the Counterfeit Act and the Gambling Act.
The police successfully confiscated liquor, cannabis, mandrax tablets, suspected heroin capsules, cigarettes, and a gambling machine.
Furthermore, numerous traffic fines were issued for various offenses. All suspects arrested during the operations are now facing charges and will appear in court to answer for their actions.
