Newcastillians around Northern KwaZulu-Natal should prepare for heavy rainfall during the later parts of Wednesday, 31 May 2023.

The South African Weather Service (SAWS) has issued a Yellow Level 2 warning, indicating disruptive rainfall expected across parts of Northern KwaZulu-Natal on Wednesday.

SAWS predicts widespread showers and thundershowers, which could result in localised flooding.

The inclement weather may cause flooding in vulnerable formal and informal settlements, as well as on low-lying roads and bridges. Difficult driving conditions are also anticipated.

Thundershowers are forecasted in the following Northern KwaZulu-Natal towns:

  • Newcastle
  • Ladysmith
  • Utrecht
  • Vryheid

With poor weather conditions expected, motorists are advised to exercise caution while driving in the rain.
