N11 head on collision claims one life outside Ladysmith

A head on collision on the N11, located just 3km outside of Ladysmith, resulted in one fatality and left two individuals injured.

The incident occurred on Sunday, May 28, 2023, shortly before 12.30 pm at the Driefontein Turn-off.

While the precise details surrounding the accident remain unclear, Road Angels Traffic Information reported that one of the vehicles involved caught fire shortly after the collision. Promptly responding to the scene, firefighters from the Alfred Duma (Ladysmith) Municipality swiftly extinguished the flames.

Emergency services, including ER24 and KZN EMS, were dispatched to the crash site. Upon arrival, medical personnel from both organisations discovered that one individual had tragically succumbed to their injuries. While two others had sustained moderate to serious injuries.

ER24 stated that immediate onsite medical treatment was administered to the injured patients. After which, they were transported to the nearest hospital, with ER24 and KZN EMS handling the transportation respectively.

As the investigation into the incident continues, the police will conduct further inquiries.

    Too many people are overtaking dangerously and in the wrong areas because they don’t know the rules of the road. I travel out often and see this trend too much on the roads in and out of Newcastle both North and South
