Dundee plunged into darkness by cable theft

The Endumeni (Dundee) Municipality’s Communications Unit revealed on May 11, 2023, that the power outage was caused by the theft of an Eskom Cable 88KVA from Forestdale to Craigiside.

“This act of crime has resulted in a massive power outage in the whole of Dundee and surrounding areas,” stated the Municipality’s Communications Unit.

They further urged the community to be patient as Eskom Technicians work on resolving the problem, though they did not provide a timeframe for when the power would be restored.

The incident comes at a time when South Africans are already struggling with continuous load shedding, which has resulted in many businesses and households being unable to function normally. The theft of power cables only adds to the burden, leaving residents feeling helpless and frustrated.
