Arbor Park, a suburb in Newcastle, experienced a sudden power outage on the morning of May 10, 2023, leaving residents in Oak, Pine, Boom, Doorn and Elm Streets without electricity.
Newcastle Municipality’s Technical Services team had disconnected power supply to these streets to conduct urgent repairs.

Councillor Bertie Meiring from the Newcastle Municipality explained the situation and issued a notice to affected residents. “The power supply to these streets has been disconnected for urgent repair work in the area,” said Cllr Meiring. “We expect to have power restored by 4 pm today.”
Despite the inconvenience caused by the power outage, Cllr Meiring urged residents to exercise caution during the repair process. “While there is power interruptions in the area, the notice issued by Cllr Meiring urged residents to treat all installations and apparatus as live,” he said.
