Muziwami Zwane, a 45-year-old man, has been sentenced to three life terms by the Madadeni Regional Court in Newcastle for raping three women in separate incidents in November 2019.
In addition to the life sentences, Zwane will serve nine years for kidnapping and six years for assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
According to KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda, Zwane lured a 40-year-old victim from a tavern to his house in Madadeni on 2 November 2019, where he repeatedly raped her and imprisoned her until she managed to escape three days later.
The following day, Zwane convinced his ex-girlfriend to visit him for traditional beer. He then kidnapped and repeatedly raped her, as well as assaulted her with a bush knife.
Zwane had previously used the same modus operandi to kidnap, assault, and repeatedly rape another victim in May 2019.
KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi, praised the Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) investigating officers for their meticulous investigations which secured the ultimate sentences for the gruesome violation of the women.
“Rapists have no space in our society, and we shall put out all stops to ensure that we prevent rapes from happening,” said Lieutenant General Mkhwanazi.
