The investigation into the death of a newborn baby has taken a dark turn after it was discovered that the mother had been lying about the incident.
The case shocked Newcastillians after a woman and her baby were allegedly kidnapped by three unknown people, and the baby was killed.
Newcastillian News had reported that the woman was waiting for her sister on Hospital Street after giving birth to a baby boy. A white Golf with three occupants stopped and offered her a lift, but she and her baby were allegedly kidnapped, and the baby was killed.
However, the Newcastle SAPS investigation has found that the woman had made a false statement about the crime. “During the initial investigation, leads were followed up, as well as enquiries at the hospital, when it was found that the complainant made a false statement,” said the Newcastle Police.
As a result, the woman now faces criminal charges, and the Newcastle police have opened a perjury case against her. She has appeared before the Newcastle Courts.
The case has left many Newcastillians shocked and questioning the motives behind the woman’s false statement. The investigation is ongoing, and the police are urging anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
Residents are also encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the authorities.
