Sunnyridge, Newcastle woman arrested for assaulting husband with crutches

Three men arrested linked to Newcastle's home invasions

A Sunnyridge woman was arrested on Monday, 1 May 2023, after she allegedly assaulted her husband with a set of crutches during an argument.

According to a police source, the altercation occurred in the couple’s home at around 7 pm on Monday night. “The man alleged that he and his wife had an argument, as they were having serious problems,” the police source said.

The argument quickly escalated, with the wife allegedly hitting her husband with the crutches, causing an open wound to his head. The woman also reportedly bit the man on his arm and broke his glasses.

Newcastle SAPS were alerted to the assault and subsequently arrested the woman. The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Domestic violence is often portrayed as a gendered issue, with men as the perpetrators and women as the victims. However, this incident serves as a reminder that domestic violence can occur in any relationship and that both men and women can be victims.
