Fatal truck collision with broken down car leaves one dead and another injured

A fatal accident occurred on the R74, between Estcourt and Colenso, in the early hours of Sunday morning, resulting in the death of one man and leaving another seriously injured. The incident happened when a truck collided with two men who were pushing a broken-down Mazda.

Emergency medical services rushed to the scene, but unfortunately, nothing could be done for the deceased man who was declared dead on arrival. The second man suffered serious injuries and was transported to Ladysmith Provincial Hospital for further care.

“ER24 paramedics were on the scene at 02:04 am, 5 kms outside Colenso, along with SAPS and towing,” said ER24. “The deceased was found one meter from the side of the road. The second male was found lying next to the truck.”

It is believed that the driver of the Mazda fled the scene unharmed, while the truck driver was found uninjured. The South African Police Service is conducting investigations into the matter.
