A night of revelry turned into a horrific tragedy as a local man lost his life during a visit to his friend’s residence in Siyahlahla, Newcastle.

According to an official police source, the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday morning, April 23, 2023, when the victim was seen drinking at the suspect’s home.

The two friends were reportedly enjoying themselves without any apparent arguments or issues.

Eyewitnesses stated that the homeowner suddenly and without warning stabbed the victim in the left-hand side of his neck. The perpetrator then fled the scene, leaving the victim in critical condition.

“The victim’s family was called to the scene, and upon their arrival, the victim was still alive,” explained the police source. “They arranged for transport to the Newcastle Clinic, but unfortunately, the victim was declared dead upon arrival.”

Newcastle SAPS spokesperson, Lizzy Arumugam, revealed that local police were alerted to the incident at approximately 1:20 am on Sunday morning when they were called to the Newcastle Clinic.

“When the officers arrived at the clinic, they found that a man had been stabbed to death,” stated Arumugam.

After speaking with medical personnel and the victim’s family, the police proceeded to Siyahlala, where witnesses led them to the suspect’s home and positively identified the alleged assailant.

Currently, the suspect is in custody, and further investigations by the police are underway. However, the motive behind the brutal killing remains unclear, as pointed out by Arumugam.

This violence is due to very poor mental health care service in Amajuba. There are too many psychotic people running around undetected and untreated. It is very scary.
