The uThukela District Municipality is taking steps to tackle the persistent problem of leaking water pipes in the region. On Thursday, 20 April 2023, the District Municipality, which oversees the Okhahlamba (Bergville), Alfred Duma (Ladysmith), and Inkosi Langalibalele (Estcourt) municipalities, highlighted the urgent need to address the issue of leaking pipes, which has been causing damage to houses and inconveniencing residents.
A resident from Ezakheni Section A in the Ladysmith area expressed frustration, stating that she had been reporting the problem of water leakage for a long time but nothing had been done about it.
In response, the Mayor of uThukela District Municipality, Cllr Ntandoyenkosi Shabalala, visited the resident’s home to assess the damage and find ways to assist. “The Mayor then promised that the workers of uThukela District Municipality will assist to prevent water from flowing into the yard. They will bring a TLB to open the drain so that the water can pass through easily,” said the Communications Unit of the District Municipality.
Cllr Shabalala also visited Acaciavale on Agra Road, where another issue of leaking pipes was causing water to fill up the road, causing inconvenience to road users.
The District Municipality’s Communications Unit stated that the Mayor is actively working to resolve the issue of leaking pipes and prevent further damage. The District Municipality is committed to ensuring that residents have access to reliable water supply and efficient service delivery.
As the uThukela District Municipality takes action to address the problem of leaking water pipes, residents and road users are hopeful that the issue will be resolved soon. Share your views on the focus of Northern KwaZulu-Natal Municipalities on service delivery in the comment section below.
