AfriForum Newcastle has taken a stand against crime in their community by leading a patrol through the streets of Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal on Friday night, 14 April 2023.
The initiative formed part of a national project, where AfriForum branches across the country joined forces to patrol the streets of South Africa and show solidarity in the fight against crime.

Ferdi Dedikend of AfriForum Newcastle stated that the patrol was conducted in collaboration with the South African Police Service (SAPS), Newcastle Community Policing Forum (CPF), and community members. “AfriForum Newcastle patrolled with the SAPS, Newcastle CPF, and community members as we want to help fight crime as a community,” said Dedikend.
While the initiative proved the community’s determination to rid Newcastle of crime, Dedikend highlighted that AfriForum Newcastle’s Neighborhood Watch held patrols on a monthly basis.
“While it is held once a month and is voluntary, if we can get more members, we would like to do more patrols so we can do our part in combating crime”. – Ferdi Dedikend of AfriForum Newcastle
