A 21-year-old woman has died from severe burn injuries, leading to the arrest of her boyfriend, a local man from Madadeni.

The incident occurred on Saturday, 8 April 2023, when the woman was brought to Niemeyer Hospital in Utrecht by ambulance from Wakkerstroom.

Despite the best efforts of medical practitioners, she passed away on Tuesday, 11 April 2023.

Following the incident, the police launched an investigation, which led them to the scene of the alleged explosion. The boyfriend had claimed that his girlfriend was burned after a petrol container exploded near a heater at his residence. However, the police found his version of events suspicious and his actions unreasonable.

Upon investigation, the police discovered that the room where the explosion was said to have taken place showed no sign of an explosion or fire.

Further investigations revealed that there had been a fire under the bed, and blood splatter was found on the wall, leading the police to suspect that the boyfriend might have attempted to murder his girlfriend.

The boyfriend was also found to have sustained burn wounds and was taken to hospital for treatment. He is currently in police custody, and further investigations are underway.

The Newcastillian News team sends our condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
