Newcastle Municipality warns of planned maintenance outages on Monday

Come Monday, 20 March 2023, 13 suburbs across Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal will experience planned power outages.

This follows the Newcastle Municipality issuing a notice, warning residents of planned maintenance related outages due to ageing infrastructure, pressured by the extended loadshedding.

Therefore, the Newcastle Municipality’s Communications Unit said all this would affect various residential areas in Newcastle West from 8 am until 1 pm.

The following areas will be affected:

  • Ncandu Park
  • Amajuba Park
  • Barry Hertzog Park
  • Schuinshoogte
  • Signal Hill
  • Amiel Park
  • Sunnyridge
  • Hutten Heights
  • Avairy Hill
  • Lennoxton
  • Suryaville
  • Fernwood
  • Sunset View

“Furthermore, a risk of trip would be possible at the Central A Substations (Loadshedding Zone 3) as to keep the operations in the CBD going,” said the Newcastle Municipality’s Communications Unit.

The Communications Unit added that the above maintenance is critical, as to try and eliminate long outages, caused by poor maintenance and vegetation under 132kV lines. Whereby the entity further said that it was important to note, that this was not an outage but a risk of trip for the CBD.

“Newcastle Municipality urges the community to treat all electrical installations as live, especially during the proposed outages. We urge residents to exercise patience while our teams swiftly respond to the crisis,” concluded the Communications Unit.
