After losing control of his vehicle along Drakensberg Drive, Newcastle on Wednesday morning, 1 March 2023—a motorist narrowly escaped serious injury.
According to sources on the scene, the motorist was driving his Ford Bantam bakkie down Drakensberg Drive, towards town, when he lost control of the vehicle. The small bakkie went over the embankment, into the middle of the road, and across the lane of oncoming traffic, all before coming to a halt on the pavement.
Fortunately, no other cars were involved, and the motorist escaped with minor injuries. While it is unclear how the driver lost control of his vehicle, traffic officials on the scene encouraged motorists to be cautious when driving.
