After the torrential rainfalls and flooding, Newcastillians welcomed the sunshine and clear weather conditions. However, this is apparently not set to last.
This comes after the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Yellow Level 2 Warning.
According to the weather service, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected over most parts of KZN on Wednesday, 15 February 2023.
With the inclement weather expected to begin during the afternoon and continue well into the night, SAWS noted the following; “These storms are expected to be accompanied by damaging winds and heavy downpours,” added SAWS.
In addition to this, the weather service highlighted that inclement weather could result in the following impacts:
- Localised flooding of settlements, as well as low-lying roads and bridges.
- Localised damage to infrastructure.
- Severe lightning, which could possibly result in fire incidents, and injuries to both humans and livestock.
- Difficult driving conditions which could lead to minor vehicle accidents.
With this in mind, SAWS cautioned the following towns:
- Newcastle
- Ladysmith
- Dannhauser
- Bergville
- Dundee
- Utrecht
- Underberg
- Estcourt
- Greater Kokstad
- Indaka
- Impendle
- Mooi River
- Richmond
- Nquthu
- UMngeni
- Msunduzi
- Umvoti
- Umzimkhulu
