Robbery and murder add to an already stacked Newcastle SAPS’s plate

Three men arrested linked to Newcastle's home invasions

As Newcastillians focused on the recent flooding, local law enforcement found themselves additionally combating violent crimes.

On the ball, Newcastle SAPS spokesperson Lizzy Arumugam told Newcastillian News that on Saturday, 11 February 2023 two violent crimes were reported.

The first, according to Arumugam took place at 1:30 pm in Section B, Osizweni, next to the Bantshi Tuckshop. Where a man was stabbed three times.

“The victim was rushed to a nearby clinic, where he then succumbed to his injuries,” said Arumugam. She added that with the Osizweni SAPS opening a murder case, and after preliminary investigations, two suspects were arrested.

The motive, for the time being, remains a mystery. However, Arumugam assured that further police investigations were underway.

Following this, at 2:30 pm, a youngster was intimidated and robbed by two men, armed with a firearm, in Ncandu Park, Newcastle.

“The complainant alleged that his grandson was threatened with a firearm and robbed of his cellphone to the value of R9000-00 by unknown suspects, before they got into a silver car and drove away.”

The matter was reported to the Newcastle SAPS and the suspects were located, arrested and the stolen cellphone was recovered.

As to be expected, further police investigations are underway.
