A motorist found herself the centre of attention on Sunday morning, 12 February 2023, after her vehicle was swept away by water.
The motorist had attempted to cross the flooded road by the Amcor Dam bridge shortly before 11 am on Sunday morning. However, the strong current and steady flow of deep water quickly caught her vehicle, sweeping it away before it hit an embankment, and then submerged.
Fortunately, the woman was able to get out of the car before it sunk and make her way into some nearby trees, in the flooded waters for safety.
Newcastle SAPS, Newcastle Search and Rescue, and the Newcastle Municipality’s Fire Fighters were called to assist the woman. She was rescued within minutes and the recovery of the vehicle then began.
With further rain expected for the coming days, motorists are encouraged to avoid trying to cross flooded roads.
