A collision involving a bakkie and a truck along the R34, between Utrecht and Wakkerstroom, has sadly left two people dead.

According to reports, the accident happened on Wednesday afternoon, 8 February 2023. The bakkie was travelling towards Utrecht and the truck was travelling in the direction of Newcastle, KZN.

KwaZulu Private Ambulance stated that they received the call of the head-on collision at 3 pm. The company’s spokesperson Chantell Botha explained that when the team arrived on the scene, they found that the two people in the bakkie had already succumbed to their injuries.

Whereas, the truck driver escaped without any injuries.

While circumstances around the incident are unclear, a source claimed that the bakkie driver had allegedly attempted to overtake another vehicle.

“The other vehicle then picked up speed, and the bakkie and truck attempted to swerve out of each other’s way, but unfortunately collided,” the source said.

Further police investigations are now underway.

What happened to the distraught sheep dog that is standing next to the bakkie? It appears as though the deceased from the bakkie were it’s owners!!
