Our friends at the South African Weather Service (SAWS) issued a Yellow Level 2 Warning today, cautioning of scattered showers and thunderstorms over the majority of KwaZulu-Natal. This weather is set to touch ground today (Thursday afternoon, 2 February 2023).
“Conditions are favourable for the development of severe thunderstorms over the western and central parts of KZN, with possible strong damaging winds, excessive lightning, hail and downpours.
The areas set to be impacted include:
- Newcastle
- Dannhauser
- Utrecht
- Dundee
- Ladysmith
- Vryheid
- Pongola
- Nongoma
- Ulundi
- Msinga
Additionally, SAWS stated that the storms could result in flooding of low-lying roads and bridges, damage to infrastructure and severe lighting that could result in fire incidents and difficult driving conditions.
