There is currently a post gaining traction on social media titled, “Save South Africa March,” which calls for a countrywide shutdown from Tuesday, 24 January 2023, until loadshedding stops completely.
The post also calls for a block on coal transportation, stating that if SA can’t get coal, neither can Europe.
It also calls for all major highways and roads throughout South Africa to be blocked off.
To confirm the validity of the post, Newcastillian News contacted the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial SAPS and Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team.
To date, the post proves to be a ruse to cause further strain on an already bent-over South African economy.
KZN SAPS spokesperson, Colonel Robert Nethshiunda said that any threats of a national shutdown or any similar threats would be communicated by the National SAPS Head office.
From a local level, Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team member, Imran Ghafoor affirmed that there were no reports of any such shutdown in the area.
With the notice being dubbed as fake news, residents are urged to NOT believe every concocted-up post on social media. This is why reputable news agencies exist, to convey accurate, informative news.
