Extreme heat to continue around KZN until Thursday

Weekend weather forecast for Newcastle, Ladysmith and Vryheid

According to the South Africa Weather Service (SAWS), Newcastillians can expect the blazing weather conditions to continue for the week.

According to the forecaster, a heatwave with persistently high temperatures is expected until Thursday, 19 January 2023, across KwaZulu-Natal.

The central and northeastern regions are expected to experience the highest temperatures, with SAWS saying parts would possibly reach highs of about 37 to 38 degrees Celsius. This, while the western and southern parts will reach highs of around 35 degrees Celsius.

SAWS further added that other regions will have consistently higher temperatures than normal for the next three days.

With the heat set to continue, SAWS issued a weather advisory for the following towns in KZN:

  • Newcastle
  • Estcourt
  • Nkandla
  • Ladysmith
  • Indaka
  • Hlabisa
  • Hluhluwe
  • Dannhauser
  • Underberg
  • Paulpietersburg
  • Utrecht
  • Dundee
  • Vryheid
  • Mooi River

“People and animals may experience heat stroke or heat exhaustion with prolonged heat exposure and/or physical activities,” said SAWS.

With more heat expected, KZN residents are encouraged to remain hydrated and protect themselves and their animals from the heat.
