Crystal Meth is now a standard across Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal with law enforcement clarifying that the drug is most prevalent among Newcastle’s middle class.
This follows the arrest of yet another foreign national, caught with the illegal substance on Friday, 13 January 2023.
Newcastle Crime Fighter Task Team member, Imran Ghafoor explained that Friday’s arrest followed a tip-off, nabbing the suspect in Lennoxton with 40 grams of Crystal Meth.
The foreign national was subsequently placed under arrest. However, Ghafoor noted, “Crystal Meth is becoming very common within the White, Indian and Coloured communities.”
But it was not the poorer of the above-mentioned communities that sought the drug. From his experience, Ghafoor added that Crystal Meth was especially more popular with the local middle-class communities.
Furthermore, the Newcastle Hawks, joined by additional law enforcement officials arrested a foreign national on Thursday, 12 January 2023, with nearly R300 000 worth of crystal meth, cocaine and crack cocaine in the Newcastle CBD.
