Woman brutally killed in Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal suburb

Vehicle stolen in Hilldrop leads to high-speed chase

A 32-year-old woman was murdered in Cerise Street, Lennoxton, Newcastle, with the suspect still at large.

Newcastle SAPS spokesperson Lizzy Arumugam gave the rundown, explaining that on Thursday afternoon, 12 January 2023, at approximately 4 pm the Newcastle SAPS received a call reporting the crime.

Upon arrival, law enforcement found the deceased woman laying on her bed in the servant’s quarters of the home. Her underwear was pulled down to just above her knees, while there was a t-shirt tightly wrapped around her neck.

Adding to the horrific scene, Arumugam said, “There were blood stains on the wall, as well as on the bed.”

According to the SAPS, the woman had sustained other injuries but it could not be elaborated on at the time of publication.

However, Arumugam did point out that the deceased had been struck with a brick.

Police sources claimed that a family member saw a strange man on their property, but the suspect fled the scene when he realised he had been spotted.

According to the police, the suspect fled the scene with the keys to the deceased’s room. A spare key had to be used to open her locked room, which was also ransacked.

While the suspect is still at large, Arumugam is urging anyone who might know the killer’s whereabouts to immediately contact the Newcastle SAPS.

Newcastillian News extends our condolences to the deceased family.
