Police sergeant shot and killed while sleeping

Crime climbs in Hutten Heights, Aviary Hill and more: Here's Why

A police sergeant was shot and killed in his home during the early hours of Monday morning, 9 January 2023.

Spokesperson for the Hawks, Captain Simphiwe Mhlongo explained that the 42-year-old officer from Paulpietersburg had finished working late the previous night. “He went to his place of residence and went to sleep alongside his fiancé.”

The sergeant’s fiancé, who happens to be a constable, was then woken up at approximately 4:30 am.

“She claimed an intruder had climbed through one of the home’s windows, and pointed his firearm at her, before telling her to remain silent,” told Captain Mhlongo.

The intruder then took the woman into a different room, where he left her before returning to the sleeping sergeant. It was then that the woman heard several gunshots ringing out.

When she left the room, the suspect had already escaped.

Captain Mhlongo further said that officials from the Richards Bay Serious Organised Crime Investigation Unit were now investigating the murder and that no motive had yet been established.

If you have any information to please contact the authorities and assist in seeing justice achieved.

As law enforcement now embarks on its investigations, what do you think about the above-mentioned?
