A 16-year-old girl, now charged with murder, came to her mother’s defence on Sunday night, 4 December 2022.
Transpiring in Osizweni, KwaZulu-Natal, the adolescent’s mother was engaged in a heated argument with her 38-year-old boyfriend, explained Osizweni Police spokesperson Captain Nkosi. “The mother’s boyfriend started assaulting her (the mother) and the daughter tried to come to her mother’s aid.”
With the man allegedly growing more violent during the assault, the girl grabbed a knife, determined to protect her mother. “The deceased was stabbed six times in the chest by the 16-year-old girl,” stated Captain Nkosi who further confirmed that the man was declared dead on the scene.
While a murder charge has been opened at the Osizweni SAPS, Captain Nkosi explained that due to the girl’s age, she could not be detained and was currently in her mother’s care.
As the teenager is now set to appear in the Madadeni Court, violence against women and children continues to tarnish Newcastle and its surrounding towns, with Newcastillian News reporting on 3 November 2022, how 10 women had been killed in the Amajuba District within a span of 11 months.
