On Tuesday night, 29 November 2022, a Mini Cooper and a truck collided head-on just outside Newcastle, KwaZulu-Natal along the N11.
According to an official on the scene, the Mini Cooper was travelling from Volksrust towards Newcastle.
“The motorist was apparently overtaking several cars, when the collision occurred. The truck driver allegedly tried to swerve out of the way, but it seems that the motorist of the Mini did the same thing and the two collided,” said the source.

KwaZulu-Natal Private Ambulance spokesperson Chantell Botha explained that when KwaZulu Private Ambulance arrived on the scene, paramedics found one of the car’s occupants sustained minor injuries.
“The patient was treated on scene before being transported to hospital,” said Botha.
However, while one person managed to escape serious injury, Botha said one fatality was reported at the collision.
“Sadly, an occupant sustained fatal injuries and succumbed to them before emergency services arrived.”

When looking at road safety, KZN Private Ambulance’s Sifiso Zwane highlighted that there has been a slight increase in the number of collisions within the Newcastle community.
“This is largely due to negligent driving and an influx of trucks using local roads and the N11.”
With this in mind and considering the approaching holiday season, motorists are encouraged to practice caution when driving, while adhering to traffic laws.
Newcastillian News and Pixelfish Marketing send our condolences to the family of the deceased.
