Political strife continues to endure across Northern KwaZulu-Natal. This follows the attempted murder of Inkosi Patrick Sphamandla Khumalo of the Amantungwa Traditional Council, under the Amajuba District.
Acting MEC for the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (KZNCOGTA), Sipho Hlomuka explained that the Department learned about the attempted murder on Thursday morning, 17 November 2022.
“This morning we learned with shock and sadness of the attempted murder of Inkosi Khumalo of Amantungwa Traditional Council under the Amajuba District.”
MEC Hlomuka additionally said that according to reports, Inkosi Khumalo was rushed to hospital after he was attacked by unknown gunmen near his home in Utrecht.
“We condemn these continuing acts of criminality and undermining of our traditional leaders and the role they play in our society,” declared the MEC.
Moreover, the MEC stressed that the government was appealing to the conscience of local communities, as he pointed out that these acts destabilise the institution of traditional leadership, which in turn has a domino effect on development in the respective communities.
“We urge the police and all law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in finding perpetrators of these hideous crimes and bringing them to book,” MEC Hlomuka concluded.

A humble servant of the people, soft hearted and generous, Inkosi Siphamandla Khumalo, what a sobering call. This indeed indicates the obvious to us all that it is not all who are happy for the progress of our district Amajuba. Let us remember how the spokes person of the previous administration was outsted by these “inkabi’s”, that there are those who play the game of politics without obedience to any rules But to fight for people we must, it is a divine calling, and as such it must be treated. Speedy recovery my leader Sipha, our prayers are to you and the Royal Family at large, be strong, be comforted.
